MealAI (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the website usemealai.com and the MealAI application (the “Service”). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our Service. We are a Canadian company and comply with applicable Canadian and international privacy laws, including PIPEDA and the GDPR.

2. Information We Collect

We collect the following categories of information:

  • Account Information: Your email address, name, and password when you create an account, or profile information provided via Google OAuth sign-in.
  • Dietary & Health Data: Dietary preferences, allergies, health goals, family size, and cuisine preferences you provide during onboarding and app use.
  • Usage Data: Meal plans generated, grocery lists created, recipes saved, and feature interactions.
  • Payment Information: Billing details processed securely by Stripe. We do not store your full credit card number on our servers.
  • Device & Log Data: IP address, browser type, operating system, and access times collected automatically.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • Generate personalized meal plans, grocery lists, and nutrition insights.
  • Process payments and manage your subscription.
  • Improve our AI algorithms and Service quality.
  • Send transactional emails (receipts, password resets, account updates).
  • Respond to customer support requests.
  • Comply with legal obligations.

4. How We Store Your Data

Your data is stored securely using Supabase, a SOC 2 compliant platform with encryption at rest and in transit. Databases are hosted on infrastructure provided by AWS. We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction.

5. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

  • Supabase: Authentication and database hosting.
  • Stripe:Payment processing. Stripe's privacy policy governs payment data handling.
  • Google OAuth:Optional sign-in method. Subject to Google's privacy policy.
  • Instacart (Affiliate):Grocery ordering integration. When you use Instacart through our Service, Instacart's privacy policy applies to data shared with them.

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

6. Cookies

We use essential cookies to maintain your authentication session and remember your preferences. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. Third-party services (Stripe, Google) may set their own cookies as described in their respective privacy policies.

7. Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law. Payment records may be retained for up to 7 years for tax and accounting purposes.
